Somer Mojica is the Narrative Media Facilities and Equipment Coordinator for the Cinema department. She earned her BA in Broadcasting and Literature at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She then went on to study Cinematography at Savannah College of Art and Design to earn an MFA. Somer’s graduate thesis short film “Bottleneck” won many awards such as HBO’s Best Student film and Best Cinematography, and Panavision’s Best Cinematography at the Savannah Film Festival in 2006. “Bottleneck” was also nominated for a student Oscar in the alternative film category the following year.

In 2010, Somer joined the IATSE Local 600 Camera Union in New York as a Camera Assistant. She worked on tv shows such as Madam Secretary, High Maintenance, Billions and The Punisher. She also had the opportunity to work on films such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Spoiler Alert, Here Today, and The Con is On. Somer served a term as the Recording Secretary in the Local 600 Eastern Region, and currently serves on the union’s National Executive Board. She is very passionate about unions and protecting workers’ rights. When she’s not helping students with film equipment, you can either find her hiking, reading at the library, or doing grandma crafts.
