We believe that the arts have the power to bring people together, creating shared experiences and inspiring collaboration across disciplines.

Our faculty are at the heart of this thriving community. As both teachers and working artists, they lead creative practices around the world. We’re also a beacon for creatives, convening guest artists, designers, performers, curators and entrepreneurs who share their experiences and their expertise.

We’re deeply embedded in the city of Richmond—where the walls of businesses are canvasses for 20-foot-tall murals, and monthly gallery walks pack the streets with art lovers. This relationship is further strengthened by our connection to the Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU. And initiatives like the Commonwealth Society, Pollak Society and our pre-college programs offer opportunities for local residents to find their place at VCUarts.

Partnerships that serve society are also part of our DNA. At middle Of broad—our design lab that was launched through a VCU community engagement grant—our students are working in and with the local community, using the arts to make life better for citizens. As part of our role in the university’s iCubed initiative, we’re exploring opportunities to promote racial equality in arts and culture.

Through this community of artists and innovators, VCUarts is creating a nexus for artists, designers, performers and scholars from across the globe and around the corner.
