COVID-19 UPDATES: Spring Semester Information

Creative Arts Day Camp

Department of Education

Due to numerous disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic, Creative Arts Day Camp: Dream & Discover has been cancelled for Summer 2020. We are so sorry that we are unable to continue with our usual summer programming. Creative Arts Day Camp will return for Summer 2021, and we hope you and your camper will join us then for another engaging summer of art making. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email to

The VCUarts Department of Art Education is offering the Creative Arts Day Camp for children rising into grades K-8. Classes are divided by age, and four classes are offered each session (K-1) (2-3) (4-5) (6-8). Summer 2020 will contain two sessions. Classes are taught by graduate and undergraduate art education students. The camp will provide students with experience in a variety of media including sculpture, digital media, printmaking, painting, drawing, bookmaking, fibers, and more. Each session will focus on a different theme so participants can sign up for multiple sessions!

The Summer 2020 theme is “Dream & Discover.” Dream & Discover creates opportunities for students to go a step beyond what they might experience in the regular art classroom. We hope to create experiences that help students to engage with the world around them and have meaningful experiences with art.

Session Dates

Dates: Camp runs for four weeks from July 6 – July 31, 2020.

Days: Monday through Friday. Digital content will be posted on Monday, with virtual check-in days scheduled throughout the week, and a virtual group show-and-tell on Friday.

Each week at camp, there is a different theme. Age group is based on the child’s rising grade level. Rising kindergarteners must be five years old by the time of the selected camp session in order to enroll.

Session One

  • Week One: July 6-10 (Imagination)
  • Week Two: July 13-17 (Environmental Discovery)

Session Two

  • Week Three: July 20-24 (Fantasy Adventures)
  • Week Four: July 27-31 (Community Discovery)

Lessons will change each week, so participants are encouraged to sign up for more than one session. A session is equivalent to one week.

Tuition (all sessions)

Registration: $125

** This is a reduced cost from previous years. Because we know online camp will not be the same experience as being together in person, camp will be offered at a reduced cost to you. This new registration fee includes an art materials packet.

Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis until sessions are full. We are only able to secure spots in a session once both payment and an enrollment application are received. Enrollment confirmation and payment receipts will be sent by email.

Refund Policy: We are not able to issue refunds after May 15, 2020.

** This is a change from the original refund deadline of May 1, 2020. We have extended the refund deadline by two weeks to accommodate for unexpected upheaval due to COVID-19.

A 5% discount will be applied to your total bill if you meet any one of the following criteria:

  • VCU employee or student (for children or legal dependents of VCU employees or students only)
  • Enroll more than one child at Creative Arts Day Camp
  • Enroll your child in multiple camp sessions

Enrollment Applications can be accessed here!
