VCUarts ranked among world’s top drama schools

By VCUarts staff

VCUarts has been ranked as one of the top 25 drama schools in the world by The Hollywood Reporter. The article highlights Sharron Ott – who previously served as chair and is currently the artistic director for the Department of Theatre – and how her talent, vision and dedication have helped to further elevate the department in recent years.

Under Ott’s leadership, the department received accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Theatre for a new concentration in Musical Theatre. In addition, Ott introduced minors in Theatre, Musical Theatre and (with the participation of several other VCUarts departments) an interdisciplinary minor in Sound Design.

The Department of Theatre at VCUarts educates and trains students in the fields of performance, design/technology, and theatre pedagogy and provides students with the professional and cultural foundations essential for achieving the highest standards of the art of theatre. The department’s faculty and alumni practice their craft as artists locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. They work on the stage, in TV and films, author books in their disciplines, and hold elected offices in some of the nation’s most prestigious organizations.
