Sarah ‘SPEE’ Parker: Butts&Ashes

VCUarts and The Anderson are pleased to present an exhibition in the top floor Hidden Galleries from Spee Parker, Craft/Material Studies adjunct faculty member (Craft/Material Studies MFA, 2022). The show Butts&Ashes is Parker’s reflection on the dualities of a messy human existence. In this space, grief and humor are bedfellows. Everyone urinates, ruminates, sheds, and shits. Chaos sparks notions of precarity, anxiety, and disorder. To counterbalance the dis-ease there are quiet spaces of order, thoughtful voids, meditations, careful laborings that seek harmony. Each work is equally planned as it is a collaboration with happenstance. Solutions are not fussy—rather, resourceful in what she intends to be a hopeful expression of curiosity not unlike that of a child.
