Exhibition Statement
Summit New Jersey 2001 is a show about the grief of lost identity through reimagined methods of storytelling. Told from a child’s perspective, Summit New Jersey 2001 tells the story of one kid growing up in America, consuming comics and cartoons, losing a parent, and reclaiming their identity as an Asian American. As more Asian American stories are told in mainstream media, the themes of vulnerability, storytelling, and family in Summit New Jersey 2001 become more universally relatable.
