Chelo Chelo Zine

chelo chelo zine

VCUarts The Anderson is pleased to support Chelo Chelo! Chelo Chelo is a zine that centers the work of Southeast Asian American creators. Within the diaspora of Asian Americans, Southeast Asians have historically resided on the sidelines of mainstream culture. The mission of Chelo Chelo is to bring together Southeast Asian American artists and creatives while bringing to light issues they face and ultimately to champion their creativity.

The first edition of Chelo Chelo zine, Hybrid Identity, is available now! Order your copy or view the digital publication here and follow @chelochelozine on Instagram to keep up to date on upcoming editions.

The Chelo Chelo project was supported by an Anderson Web-Publishing Grant. Nico Gavino, an undergraduate student in the Fashion Merchandising Program at VCU, is a recipient of this web-based grant initiative, created as a spin-off to the traditional Anderson Publishing Grant opportunity during Spring 2020. Nico collaborated with the following team members to bring this project to fruition: Sophie Nguyen (Graphic Design), Kristi Hyunh (Graphic Design), Archerd Aparejo (Graphic Design), David Tran (Mass Communications), and Melody Nguyen (Fashion Merchandising / Mass Communications).
