The Department of Fine Arts is now hiring for a variety of Federal Work Study Positions for the 2026-27 academic year! 🐏☀️

Each opportunity is now available on HandshakeAll positions require that applicants have been awarded 2026-2027 Federal Work-Study and have accepted their financial aid via eServices before submitting applications. To locate these postings, search by job title or job number on Handshake.

Applications will begin to be reviewed by late July/early August. These positions are open to ALL VCU students, but some positions have preferred qualifications.

AV Equipment Checkout Assistant | Job #11191269

  • The Fine Arts Department is seeking highly organized individuals to assist in the Audio Visual Equipment Checkout Center. Applicants should be able to follow a strict protocol using our online reservation system. Equipment Checkout workers must be comfortable helping students select and operate projectors, monitors, cameras, lighting equipment, and other devices. Limited experience with this equipment is acceptable if applicants are willing to be trained on-the-job.

 

Craft Studio Monitor (Wood, Metal, Fiber) | Job #11191106

  • The Fine Arts Department is seeking dedicated shop monitors to support the wood, metal, and fiber shops in our craft studios. As a shop monitor, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized environment. Duties include monitoring safe student use of equipment, organizing and tracking studio tools in use, tracking shop usage, ensuring everyone using equipment is authorized to do so, and performing simple maintenance tasks. Please note: while hands-on experience with shop tools and machinery is helpful, it is not required for this position. Interested applicants are asked to identify with the area in which they hope to work.

 

Fine Arts Office Assistant | Job #11191587

  • The VCUarts Departments of Art Education, Art History, and Fine Arts seek a part-time Office Assistant to perform administrative and clerical duties. This position serves as the initial contact and resource at the front desk of the Fine Arts administrative office in the Murry N. DePillars Building. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing support to administrative staff and faculty as needed, professionally greeting students and visitors and referring questions to the appropriate staff member or resource for more information, answering phones courteously and routing calls appropriately, performing daily clerical duties (filing documents, data collection and data entry, sorting and distributing office mail), assisting with production and design of department promotional materials, assisting with special events, duplication and distribution of office material, running errands on campus, and maintaining a professional and organized atmosphere in the office.

 

Fine Arts Social Media & Communications Assistant | Job #11191637

  • The VCUarts Departments of Art Education, Art History, and Fine Arts are seeking enthusiastic students for the position of Social Media and Communications Assistant. Daily tasks include, but aren’t limited to: collaborating with staff members and other work-study students to create social media posts, including editing photos and writing captions, creating drafts on the VCUarts website for events, news stories, and artworks in “The Work” section, photographing artwork and events around the Monroe Park Campus, such as the Seipel Gallery, Anderson Gallery, and the Institute of Contemporary Art at VCU.

 

Painting + Printmaking Studio Monitor | Job #11191424

  • The Fine Arts Department is seeking a dedicated part-time Studio Monitor to assist in the accessibility and maintenance of our painting and printmaking studios. The studio monitor is responsible for assisting students and faculty in the painting, drawing, and printmaking studios. When on duty, the Painting and Printmaking Studio Monitor will monitor the equipment and activity in the studios while being available to provide basic technical support to students. Duties include studio upkeep with an emphasis on organization and safety, supply replenishment, opening up and closing down the studios, and completing special projects as needed.

 

Sculpture Wood and Metal Shop Monitor | Job #11177635

  • The Fine Arts Department is seeking dedicated shop monitors to support the wood and metal shops in our sculpture studios. As a shop monitor, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized environment.   • The Fine Arts Department is seeking a dedicated individual to assist its lead technician with maintenance and general upkeep of the building including; studio and equipment maintenance, updating of safety data binders, small repairs, shop monitoring, and the ability to take on other special projects as needed. On-the-job training is provided and the right applicant can grow with the responsibilities of the position.
