The Anderson and VCUarts are excited to announce an open call for a juried exhibition of student work coordinated by Black Art Student Empowerment (BASE) titled Crafted in the Storm. Students are invited to learn more below and apply by January 14th.
Exhibition Statement:
Black Art Student Empowerment presents Black Fidelity: Crafted in the Storm. This juried exhibition will be the 2026 edition of BASE’s annual Black Fidelity juried exhibition. Artists will be invited to display their work in The Anderson throughout Black History Month. This exhibit will explore themes of creative agency, relief in times of anguish, and radical joy. We ask the question: What is the role of the creative in times of uncertainty? Art is a powerful tool which builds a shelter of joy and expression in the midst of a storm. It connects communities through shared human sentiments. It creates portals to connect us to the experiences of people from the past and reaches the hearts of people in future. Art has the power to introduce one to a deeper version of themself. Artists wield this magnificent tool every time they create. Join us as we brave the storm through the power of artistic expression.
We invite you to expand the bounds of the theme. We want to see what “Crafted in the Storm” means to you!
