Curatorial talk with Jessica S. Hong, exhibition juror for the Capital Prize.

VCUarts Painting and Printmaking invites you to attend a talk with Capital Prize exhibition juror Jessica S. Hong, chief curator at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Gain insight into the curatorial process of selecting artworks from submissions by VCUarts Painting and Printmaking alumni. The second round Capital Prize exhibition, which opens to the public on Friday, October 2, 2026, will showcase work by 19 artists. Winners of  the jury-awarded prizes, in the amount of $5,000 per exhibition round ($3,000 for First Place, $1,500 for Second Place, and $500 for Third Place) will be announced on September 25, 2026.

Prior to joining the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Hong was the Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Toledo Museum of Art where she organized the premiere of Stan Douglas’s major film installation Doppelgänger in a U.S. institution, Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg–Machine Auguries: Toledo, the artist’s first U.S. solo presentation, and Toledo’s presentation of Marisol: A Retrospective.

A partnership between VCUarts and Capital Square, the Capital Prize presents an opportunity for Painting and Printmaking alumni to showcase their work within Chasen, a 352-unit multifamily apartment community in Scott’s Addition.
