fluid mechanics: exhaust system is a durational installation where bodies and materials keep time together. Here, time is a material punctuated by chemical, thermal, and atmospheric state-change. Actions derived from practices of bodily maintenance are repeated and extended to a point of ambiguity, between exhaustion and regeneration, therapeutic and dysfunctional. Gesturing toward the work bodies do—circulating, absorbing, and filtering—insistence is prioritized over the pretense of fluidity. fluid mechanics: exhaust system asks what is needed to sustain bodies over time: how long can an action continue before it breaks down? What can exhaustion produce? What scales of time do materials—and bodies—actually keep?
