Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and the VCU Piano Area, in collaboration with the Richmond Music Teachers Association (RMTA), are excited to present Music Around the World: One-Day Festival on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall, located in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts (922 Park Ave, Richmond, VA 23284). This vibrant festival celebrates global music, talent, and diversity through a dynamic lineup of workshops, presentations, and performances featuring VCU faculty, students, and community musicians.

  • Festival Schedule:
    • 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Presentation Sessions
      Featuring discussions on underrepresented composers led by VCUarts Music faculty and Richmond community teachers, including Dr. Sonia Vlahcevic, Dr. Magdalena Adamek, Ruta Smedina-Starke, Gabriella Ryan, and Marina Andueza.
    • 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Workshop with Featured Artists
      The Rosette String Quartet — Join this renowned Richmond-based guest string quartet as they explore the works of an iconic American composer.
    • 2:00 PM & 4:00 PM: Student Recitals
      Showcasing the talents of VCU Music students and RMTA K-12 students.
    • 5:00 PM: Faculty and Teacher Recital
      A special performance featuring VCU Department of Music faculty members and RMTA teachers.

This event is free and open to the public. Join us for a day of inspiring performances and educational experiences that highlight the richness of global musical traditions.
