☀️ Mediterranean Textiles (FASH 391) in Aix en Provence, France  ☀️
May 30-June 20, 2026 3 credits

This is a faculty-led 3 credit, 3 week course housed at the beautiful  ACM (American College of the Mediterranean) campus in the hillsides of Provence.
The class:
The Mediterranean Textiles class is interdisciplinary and curiosity-based. It includes up to 5 field trips throughout the Provence region and 1 week for a simulation project of the student’s choosing (aka. a French student could interview textile workshops in Aix or do a project on the importance of fabric production within French culture, a graphic design student could design a new line of fabric prints, or an interiors student could do a materials board for a client that wants only Mediterranean textiles in their home). We’ll explore the historical and current context of fabrics and fashion in the Mediterranean with lots of hands-on experimentation.
The location:
Aix has a beautiful, friendly, student/adventurer feel. It is the home of Cézanne, and Van Gogh painted in the hillsides of Aix. The IAU campus, where we’ll have class, is housed within a selection of 16th-19th century buildings, with a student center, a library, and a cafe right on the square of the twelfth century Aix cathedral.

If you need 6 credits this summer:
There is
an option for students to stay and take an additional 3 week/3 credit class at IAU (Institute for American Universities) if 6 credits are needed. IAU offers French, business, art, history, wine (viticulture), and other topics that can be taken as a second class.
