The VCU Rice Rivers Center (RRC) and the James River Association, with support from the Virginia Environmental Endowment, will install a 300 linear foot living shoreline on the James River. We hope to raise awareness, build community support, and provide a living-learning laboratory for our students.
We invite VCU students from any discipline to join us on Saturday, April 25th, 2026 for a living shoreline design charrette. We will visit the proposed site at RRC and a nearby completed project at Berkeley Plantation, conduct pre-project monitoring, and learn about nature-based restoration strategies while working alongside faculty and project partners on mock shoreline design exercises.
Event Timing: Saturday, April 26, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (8:45 am – 5:00 pm if using VCU vans)
Event Address: VCU Rice River Center
