INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
The Anderson, a contemporary, student-centric art space for the VCU community, is seeking applicants to support graphic design projects for the gallery. This intern’s duties will include the creation and distribution of posters, show cards and other promotional assets for exhibitions held at The Anderson. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in design; Adobe software; and excited to be a member of The Anderson’s diverse team. The internship is for credit, 4 credit hours with an anticipated commitment of 10-12 hours/week.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
● How to follow guidelines set forth by an institution to create design concepts
● Project management strategies
● Best professional practices for collaborative work
● How to ensure that final products meet design requirements when working with art spaces
KEY DUTIES
● Design promotional print materials including posters, exhibition cards, gallery brochures, gallery informational vinyl, outdoor signage, wayfinding signage and other informational material
● Design educational materials for student exhibitors and staff including staff handbooks, training materials, and educational brochures
● Perform general arts administrative tasks as needed in the gallery
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
● An undergraduate student with an interest in pursuing a career in design work in the arts evidenced through coursework, studio work, volunteer work and/or extracurricular activities
● Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
● The candidate will ideally be entering their junior or senior year as a Graphic Design major
STRUCTURE & CREDIT
Semester: Fall 2026
Schedule: 10 hours/week (for approximately 13–15 weeks)
Location: Scheduled in-person sessions at The Anderson
Supervision: Interns will receive weekly guidance and feedback from Anderson Staff
