Honoring a Creative Legacy

In September 2022, our community said farewell to cherished artist and celebrated VCUarts Painting + Printmaking alumnus Wes Freed (B.F.A. ’88). To honor Freed’s memory, his friends and family have come together to establish a scholarship in his name. The Wes Freed Memorial Scholarship Fund will support aspiring artists attending VCUarts, recognizing Freed’s profound influence on both the art and music worlds. This grassroots effort ensures that his legacy endures, empowering future artists to pursue their creative dreams just as he pursued his own.

Support the Wes Freed Memorial Scholarship Today

Freed’s artistic pursuits were diverse and interdisciplinary, so the scholarship was created with the same approach in mind. It’s designed for any VCUarts degree, with a preference for applicants who reside in a rural Virginia county. Gifts to the fund help ensure that scholarships in Freed’s name can be annually awarded in perpetuity.
