The Anderson and VCUarts are pleased to announce Tomorrow, a juried student exhibition organized by BASE, Black Art Student Empowerment. Applications will be open October 27th-November 20th, 2026. The exhibition will be on view from February 5th-February 27th, 2027, with an opening reception on February 5th, from 5-7pm.
This exhibit will explore themes of afrofuturism. Afrofuturism is a philosophy, a set of aesthetics, and a symbol of hope. It allows participants to creatively imagine the future through a black cultural lens. We invite artists to interpret the theme in their own way as long as it is able to be supported by the gallery. In Black Fidelity: Tomorrow, we invite artists to define the future through their own artistic expression.
ELIGIBILITY:
All VCUarts students who relate to the theme, in any School of The Arts department, graduate or undergraduate, who will be actively enrolled for the Spring 2027 semester are eligible to apply.
Collaborations are welcome, as long as all collaborators fit the eligibility requirements. One person may submit the application for the group, but must list all collaborators in the Applicant Information section of the form. Artists are invited to submit 2D or 3D artwork. Video work will not be considered for this exhibition but interested students can apply for the BASE Student Film Screening. Follow @BASEatVCU on Instagram for information about the Film Screening Open Call.
