The Anderson, VCUarts, and Creative Print Bureau are pleased to announce Copy/Process, a juried exhibition presented by the Creative Print Bureau.
The Creative Print Bureau (CPB) has undergone many iterations over the decades, to keep up with the everchanging School of the Arts. It has held many different names and served many different functions. In this exhibition, we hope to pay homage to the history and character of the Creative Print Bureau, highlighting the then and now of this student service hub.
Priority will be given to VCUarts students, but this open call invites all active VCU students, undergrad and graduate. We will consider work that addresses the theme, mediums should reflect technologies and capabilities of the Creative Print Bureau (past and present) as possible.
Theme:
The theme reflects the exhibition’s title and has several use cases. Copy/Process pulls from the literal use of the Creative Print Bureau to make physical copies using a variety of processes. The more thematic idea behind Copy/Process asks artists to reflect on the multitude of iterations this shop has taken on, and to consider the ways in which they engage with iterations, processes and copies.
Some prompts to consider while developing your submission:
- is anything ever truly finished?
- what lies on top of the original?
- what layers are uncovered when we peel back the output to see what’s inside?
- definition of a copy:
- 1: an imitation, transcript, or reproduction of an original work (such as a letter, a painting, a table, or a dress)
- 2: one of a series of especially mechanical reproductions of an original impression
- 3: matter to be printed.
