The Anderson, VCUarts, and Creative Print Bureau are pleased to announce Copy/Process, a juried exhibition presented by the Creative Print Bureau.
The Creative Print Bureau (CPB) has undergone many iterations over the decades, to keep up with the everchanging School of the Arts. It has held many different names and served many different functions. In this exhibition, we hope to pay homage to the history and character of the Creative Print Bureau, highlighting the then and now of this student service hub.
The idea behind the name Copy/Process stems from a literal sense of the phrase to make copies using printing processes in the CPB. The more thematic idea behind Copy/Process asks the audience to reflect on the multitude of iterations this shop has taken on and the collaborative and artistic interpretations to be pulled from the words “copy” and “process”.
In the fall, there will be an Open Call for student proposals to display artwork alongside the archive. The open call will be juried by staff at the CPB and VCU Special Collections. The student work will play into the exhibition’s theme Copy/Process, where we wish to highlight iterations, playing off the idea of learning processes, growing and changing throughout one’s creative process. The call for submissions will be for current students, and will prioritize works that have been or could be made in-house at the CPB.
The exhibition will be spearheaded by Cassie Knudsen (knudsencg@vcu.edu) and Katharine Buckley (buckleyk3@vcu.edu) with additional support from CPB staff personnel and community members.
