Laura Coombs is a graphic designer from Texas living in New York. She creates internationally recognized visual identities and editorial projects with museums, institutions, artists, and architects. Since 2017, she has led design at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Rhizome, and New Inc in downtown Manhattan. Collaborators also include MoMA, Asia Society, MIT Press, Park Books, Verso Books, New York Review of Architecture, Lisson Gallery, and Columbia Books on Architecture and the City. Notable design commissions include the book, Cyberfeminism Index, and a new visual identity for the Carnegie Museum of Art. Recent writing can be found in The Serving Library and Slow Technology Reader.
Coombs holds a degree in architecture from Cornell University and an MFA in graphic design from the Yale School of Art. She has lectured at institutions including the Walker Art Center, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Strelka Institute, and Pioneer Works. She currently teaches graphic design at Typography Summer School, Cooper Union, RISD, and Princeton University.
