The Anderson is pleased to announce Big Top Energy: Schemes & Souvenirs, a solo exhibition of work by VCUarts alumna, George Ferrandi. The exhibition traces highlights of the artist’s trajectory from her time in the program to the ongoing Jump!Star initiative. Ferrandi’s work is “art all the way down,” where process-as-practice defines her approach to community engagement. Alongside documents and artifacts from several of her past projects, including student work and an early collaborative circus project, the exhibition features sketches, proposals, studies, prototypes and in-progress works that give insight into her creative production and the social engagement it brings about.

Big Top Energy: Schemes & Souvenirs is a call to action to the community, a call to join Ferrandi in the creation of the tools that future generations will use to usher in the unknown. Ferrandi’s work is full of hope and humor without losing sight of the need to acknowledge and commemorate more painful aspects of our personal and collective stories.

The large-scale illuminated sculpture in this exhibition, Iota Cephei, is a new Jump!Star sculpture created by Ferrandi and a team of interns at 1708 Gallery and The Anderson during the summer of 2025. In October, the piece will be featured in 1708 Gallery’s InLight 2025: Super!Giant!Jump!Star at Abner Clay Park on October 17th and 18th.
