The Anderson and VCUarts are pleased to present E4, a two-person exhibition of artwork by graduate students Erin Ehren (Sculpture + Extended Media) and Daša Kulikova (Painting + Printmaking). The exhibition will be on view from January 16th – February 21st with an opening reception on January 16th from 5-8 pm.

Exhibition Statement:

Vibration enlivens the things of space. With the precise resonance, air dims. Material thins. Bodies still.

E4 is the exact pitch capable of affecting The Anderson in just this way, aligning it vibrationally, slowing and altering its possibility as site for art, transforming it into a vacuum that gives way for the theurgical possibility of art objects. With E4 emerges a sensorial suspension that heightens the gaze and lowers the object, allowing for a closer convening with art.

The two-person exhibition E4 brings together the work of VCU MFA candidates Erin Ehren and Daša Kulikova. The artists’ practices come together between shared interests in formal abstraction, expansive tactility, and color as a site for the material, the vibrational, and the desired. Ehren’s sculptural practice is a conferencing with objects by way of sustained gestures—wrapping, polishing, and incantation—to calm the restlessness of our material reality into stilled abstracted surfaces, into a container of order, into portals to the unknowable Sublime. Daša’s practice is a meditation on themes of liminality and longing, involving compositions that evolve through the physicality of paint—layering, scraping, abrading—to reveal and obscure gesture, slow mark-making, and resist definition between figuration and abstraction.
