Yi-Wen Wei, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director of Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Art Education from Florida State University and her Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Arts Education, with a Minor in Educational Psychology and Counseling, from National Taipei University of Education in Taiwan.
Her research interests include art and educational equity, social class and cultural capital, generative AI and creativity, diasporic experiences and transnational art education, and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ communities. Her work has been published in journals such as Studies in Art Education, Art Education, Journal of Social Theory in Art Education, Visual Arts Research, Journal of Homosexuality, and International Journal of Education Through Art, as well as in several book chapters. In recognition of her contributions, Dr. Wei received the NAEA Southeastern Higher Education Art Educator of the Year Award, the VCU HRC Faculty Residential Fellowship, and the VCU Burnside Watstein Faculty Award in 2026.
