Lisa Fusco joined the VCU music adjunct faculty in fall 2019 after a long and successful conducting and teaching career in the private school system. At VCU, she conducts Vox Concordia, coaches Vocal Chamber Ensemble, teaches three levels of Keyboard Skills, and the Functional Keyboard for Choral Musicians course, which she designed. Most recently, she served as shadow-conductor for the VCU Choirs performance with the Richmond Pops Band at their Veterans Day concert. She prepares the Snow Chorus for The Richmond Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker,” and is a past guest conductor for Richmond’s One Voice Chorus. As a singer and rehearsal assistant with Richmond Symphony Chorus, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, in numerous concerts with the Richmond Symphony.

As Visual & Performing Arts Chair at Saint Gertrude High School, she doubled the size of the music program and developed innovative music courses. She was recognized as a Distinguished Teacher of the Year and was named an Outstanding Educator by the Governor’s School for the Humanities, Visual and Performing Arts. She taught four choirs, handbells, music technology, humanities, and theatre classes, produced yearly musicals and plays, and prepared music for school liturgies, as well as serving on various academic committees including curriculum development, strategic planning, and the VAIS Professional Development Committee as State Music Chair.

Lisa Fusco’s choirs were featured at three VMEA conventions, consistently won Superior rankings in District Assessments, and performed frequently throughout the Richmond and Williamsburg area. She hosted several multi-choir statewide Choral Festivals for Virginia Independent Schools, premiered two original compositions by Richmond composers, and her choir sang as part of the International Advent Sing in Vienna, Austria as well as at the NASCAR Virginia 529 Race at Richmond International Raceway. In addition to extensive graduate study in choral conducting, vocal technique, music technology, and Catholic liturgical music, she holds a Master of Humanities degree from University of Richmond, and a Choral Music Education degree from Westminster College. She is a native of Pittsburgh, PA, where she sang in the Mendelssohn Choir under the direction of Robert Page. She is a member of ACDA and NAfME.
