Lindsay Benson Garrett is an interdisciplinary artist, dancer, and designer whose work connects dance, film, and visual communication. She earned a B.F.A. in Graphic Design with a minor in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she first studied dance for camera. Her additional training includes scholarship study with Richmond Ballet, Joffrey Midwest, and American Ballet Theatre. She performed and toured with Richmond Ballet as a trainee while completing her degree and has since performed professionally with Conflux Dance Theater, rva dance collective, Gin Dance Company, Starr Foster Dance Project, and other regional companies. She also appeared in Virginia Repertory Theatre’s production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Lindsay received the 2024 Virginia Dance Award for Creative Digital Content and was nominated again in 2025. Since 2015, she has collaborated extensively with Motion X Dance Company as a producer, director, videographer, photographer, designer, editor, and performer. Her projects include Altered Archives, presented at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; Fate of Choice, presented at the Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival and Richmond Dance Festival; and Polyscope, presented at Atlas Performing Arts Center. Across her hybrid film and live-performance work, Lindsay explores how people construct identity and meaning within forces they cannot fully control. Her collaborations examine how memory, choice, circumstance, and desire influence the stories people create about who they are.
Lindsay has taught ballet at Dogtown Dance Theatre, West End Academy of Dance, and the Center for Ballet Arts. Alongside her dance and film practice, she serves as Partner of Strategic Creative at Copper Note, where she leads branding, photography, visual communication, marketing, and creative strategy for arts, nonprofit, and cultural organizations. Her photography has appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, and regional publications.
