Administrative Affairs Coordinator
Emmy Garcia is an interdisciplinary artist and educator born and raised in Richmond, Virginia.
Inspired by internet culture, she uses textiles, performance and video art to craft installations that explore ideas of gender expression and the public perception of self. Her work has been exhibited in the Studio School at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (Richmond, Virginia), Iridian Gallery (Richmond), VALLT Gallery (Roanoke, Virginia), the Burrow Gallery (Brooklyn, New York), Piedmont Virginia Community College (Charlottesville, Virginia), and virtually by way of Kraków, Poland, and Edinburgh, Scotland.
Garcia received both a B.F.A. in Sculpture and a B.A. in Anthropology from James Madison University in 2021. She has been an art educator both in private and public institutions in Richmond. In addition to working at VCUarts as an Administrative Affairs Coordinator for the Fine Arts group, she works at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts as an Education Event and Program Technician, as well as a Youth & Family faculty member.
