In the Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Media Scoring, you will engage in hands-on instrumental lessons, participate in ensembles, and explore a broad range of music courses, including those tailored specifically to media scoring, equipping you with the skills to craft compelling scores for various media.
You’ll have the unique opportunity to collaborate on innovative visual creative projects within the School of the Arts and across the university. The program also offers flexibility to delve into courses from other majors and pursue related minors like Sound Design, Visual Effects, and Animation. This interdisciplinary approach provides a comprehensive education, allowing you to develop expertise across multiple facets of media and music, preparing you for a diverse range of careers in the industry.
As a Media Scoring student, you will have the opportunity to study Film & Media Scoring. Here you will explore the aesthetics and psychology of mood music, mastering how to craft compositions that evoke specific emotions and elevate storytelling in visual media. Through real-world projects, you’ll gain hands-on experience, build a diverse portfolio, and prepare yourself for a successful career in media scoring.

All students applying for the Media Scoring concentration will be required to audition on their primary instrument. Additionally, students will submit one or two original compositions or arrangements, each 1 to 2 minutes in duration, in audio or video format that demonstrate your experience and skills in digital music production or scoring for media projects. Any style or genre is accepted, though instrumental music (not songs) is preferred. You may provide links to YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, or Google Drive for these submissions.
