- Match students to available resources
- Help students plan course schedules, clarify prerequisites, and consult on major choices
- Monitor progress toward academic success and career goals
- Teach students to maneuver within VCUarts and the academic system
All students are responsible for meeting with their academic advisor no less than twice a semester. Students may schedule an appointment with their academic advisor through the myVCU Portal.

AFO Students can make an appointment by contacting afolab@vcu.edu or in person with lab monitor on duty during Resource Lab Open Hours to use the following equipment:

Large Format Canon Photo Printer: JPG or TIFF files, 300 dpi, save image as final print dimension, bring file to lab tech on a thumb drive, Maximum paper width: 44”
- Epson Presentation Matte Paper: $2.50 square foot
- Epson Archival Matte Paper: $7.50 square foot
Epson Sure-Color Garment Printer: Prints on white or light colored natural fiber, like cotton (100% cotton works best) CMYK ink – no white ink, Print size up to 16″x20”, JPG, TIFF, PNG files, 300 dpi, fabric should be larger than 14×16” to tuck into the smaller platen frame.
- First Print: $5
- Second Print on Same Garment: $2.50 (example: front and back of shirt).
LaserPro Laser Engraver: Must set up appointment beforehand. Adobe Illustrator (.ai) files only, No PVC plastic or corrugated cardboard.

The Art Foundation Program has a wide array of equipment available to students currently enrolled in the program.
Equipment can be browsed and reserved in advance by students currently enrolled in Art Foundation courses through checkout.art.vcu.edu

Select light kits, Zoom Sound Recorders, tripods, and Canon Rebels are available for overnight checkout, due back by 5:20pm the following business day.
Select Zoom Sound Recorders, tripods, projectors, Canon Rebels and all Powershots are also available for 3 day checkout, due back by 5:20pm the day it is due.
Flip video cameras are also available for student checkout and can be borrowed for a week at a time.
Equipment cannot be checked out or returned on Saturdays and Sundays or days when the University is closed, such as holidays and inclement weather closure.
A large format printer, UV printer, laser engraver, vinyl cutters, and t-shirt printer are available for AFO student use in the Art Foundation computer lab. The technician’s availability is posted outside of the lab.
