An Already Dreamed State // Already Dreaming State // Already… is a visual exploration of horizontality, weaving together facts, fiction, questions, and reflections on the Caribbean and the diasporic experience.

Through this piece, I delve into the material and surreal aspects of what I term “mirages of emergent consciousness,” embodied in the reflective surfaces I incorporated. The installation interacts with the spatial dimensions of the gallery, simultaneously evoking the presence of both water and island. Double-sided, mirror-like surfaces suspended from the ceiling, coupled with strategic lighting, create an interplay of sky and water on the horizon, reminiscent of the aurora borealis phenomenon.

Activación was both an activation and the closing event of the installation. Collaborating with three movement artists, we choreographed a performance that interacted dynamically with the physical elements of the piece. Simultaneously, other performers lay horizontally on the floor, reading texts from influential thinkers such as adrienne maree brown, Claudia Rankine, Chinua Achebe, Zora Neale Hurston and Alexis Pauline Gumbs. These readings were integral to the research and inspiration behind the work, grounding the performance in a rich tapestry of thought and reflection.
