VCUarts Cinema Alumna Sofie Edwards received a VCUarts Undergraduate Research Grant for her film Floating. The idea for Floating, a story about a ghost who falls in love with a balloon, was devised during a cinema summer intensive and Edwards expanded it into the film they’re currently working on. Edwards and her team are looking forward to completing the film and applying to film festivals this year.

Floating was made alongside the following team of collaborators:

Sheree Chen as Faculty Advisor & Exec Producer
Sofie Edwards as Writer and Director
Gray Adgate as Cowriter
Elia Faith Crianza as Producer/Editor
Emily Huse as 1st AD
Chei-Ayn Mikell as DP
Fabiana Landivar Quintela as AC/Film Loader
Beau Donner as AC/PA
Kennedy Shahan as Production Designer
Rachel Perlish as Composer
Rania Ashoor & Aurelio Babbit as Sound Designers
Talon Bleacher as Lead Actor

Sofie’s advice for current Cinema students:

“Write down all your ideas, no matter how small or crazy, and find a good way to organize them. You never know when a simple image will transform into your next story.”
