Richmond, VA – August 2, 2024 – The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Music Department is thrilled to announce an innovative collaboration with the Richmond- based Winter Guard International (WGI) ensemble, Spectre Percussion. This partnership aims to expand VCU Music’s outreach while providing Spectre Percussion with new resources.

“This partnership with Spectre Percussion is a fantastic opportunity for our students and faculty to engage with some of the most innovative artists in the field,” said Dr. James Wiznerowicz, chair of the VCU Music Department. “We are excited to see how this project will inspire creativity and expand our musical horizons.”

Ryan Scott, Spectre Percussion’s program director, also shared their excitement. “As an alumni of VCU, I am incredibly excited to be collaborating with VCU Music,” Scott said. “This connection allows us to continue pushing the artistic excellence of our program while engaging with a talented and vibrant academic community. We are so excited to see whatamazing experiences we can create together.”

Spectre Percussion is a premier performance ensemble for percussionists, musicians and performers interested in the marching arts. Through the blending of competition and one-of-a- kind production, Spectre works to create unique interdisciplinary projects and represents a departure from traditional percussion music and performance. Spectre Percussion competes nationally in Winter Guard International competitions as well as regional competitions hosted by the Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA).
