Back Through the Open Window
VCUarts Photo Alumni Exhibition
February 7 – March 7, 2025
Reception: February 7, 5-7pm
Gallery F

Curated by BFA alums Riley Goodman & Will Connally, the exhibition features 31 BFA & MFA alumni from the past fifteen years. The show explores the various ways we as photographers communicate stories visually—ranging from personal narratives and site-specific investigations, to staged fictions and commissioned editorials. Featuring artists who interpret photography traditionally, alongside those who challenge the conventional notions of a photograph, Back Through The Open Window provides a glimpse into the wide range of accomplishments made by the alumni of the VCUarts Department of Photography.

FILMS for ONE to EIGHT PROJECTORS

Roger Beebe

Performance: March 20th, 6:00pm, Gallery B

Roger Beebe returns to Richmond with a program of 16mm multi-projector performances for the first time since 2018. The program features several newer works un arbre (2024), Lineage (for Norman McLaren) (2019), de rerum natura (2019), Home Means Never Having to Say You’re Sorry (2021), alongside projector performances including the seven-projector show-stopping Last Light of a Dying Star (2008/2011). He will also include a sampling of recent essayistic videos, presented as live-narrated documentaries. These works take on a range of topics from the forbidden pleasures of men crying Historia Calamitatum (The Story of My Misfortunes) to the racial politics of font choices The Comic Sans Video and the real spaces of the virtual economy Amazonia.
