Kinetic Imaging Alumna, Kimberly Barnes (B.F.A. ’14) has recently been awarded the Audre Lorde Justice Endowed Scholarship by the Pratt Institute.

The Audre Lorde Justice Endowed Scholarship was created by Pratt Alumna Mariame Kaba to assist students who are promising librarians and archivists dedicated to advocating and conserving the communities and knowledge of underrepresented groups. The scholarship was named after the renowned social justice activist, writer, and artist Audre Lorde who fought for racial, gender, and LGBTQ+ rights, applying her role as a librarian and archivist to promote inclusivity on how history was documented and remembered.

Since earning her B.F.A. in Kinetic Imaging, Kimberly has received an M.F.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in 2018. She has also worked in the audiovisual industry sector of academia and in 2020 taught a class called “Gender, Race, and Animation” at Lesley College of Art and Design. Currently, Kimberly is working on a dual degree in Library Information Science and the History of Art and Design at the Pratt Institute in New York and is on track to graduate in 2027.
