The VCU University Band presents “Journey”
- The piece Rocketship by Kevin Day will symbolize reaching for the stars, exploration, and ambition.
- Aventura by James Swearengin also has a sense of movement and adventure.
- Belonging by Tom Davoran will explore the idea of having a sense of place and belonging.
- Georgia on My Mind represents a connection to a beloved place, in this case, Georgia
- A Zillion Nickels by Sam Hazo evokes a sense of discovery and brilliance given the rhythmic energy and use of metallic percussion.
The audience will be taken through a variety of emotional landscapes, from the hopeful and adventurous spirit of “Rocketship” to the reflective, nostalgic mood of “Georgia on My Mind.” The program will showcase different kinds of journeys, physical, emotional, and imaginative on Friday, April 11th at 7:00PM at the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts.
