The VCU Symphonic Wind ensemble will perform on Wednesday, February 18th at 7:00pm. The performance will take place in the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts (922 Park Avenue, Richmond, VA 23220).

The program will include:

  • Gavorkna Fanfare by Jack Stamp
  • E Ala E, Arise and Awaken by James David.  This three movement work pays tribute to Hawaiin folk songs and will be an audience favorite.
  • Under Western Skies featuring trumpet soloists Dr. Taylor Barnett and Davey DeArmond (US Naval Academy Band)
  • Towards Peace by Peter Meechan, featuring piano virtuoso Eri Nakamura of the Neave Trio.  This piece tells the story of a little girl,  her piano and the bombing of Hiroshima.  The littler girl perished but her piano survived and is still on display today.  Eri’s grandmother is a Hiroshima survivor so her connection to this piece will be magical.
  • Esprit De Corps by Robert Jager was composed for Col. John Bourgouis of the US President’s Own Marine Corps Band.  This energetic piece will feature powerful brass lines and impressive woodwind flourishes.

Tickets to the performance are $5.00 for VCU students, $14.00 for the general public. VCU Music Students attend for free.
