Christine DeSantis Hoffman serves as an Academic Advisor to undergraduate students at VCUarts (music and art education) and is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Music at VCU. She earned her degrees in music education from Virginia Commonwealth University (BM) and Northwestern University (MM). Christine taught elementary school general music for 20 years in public and independent schools in Chicago, Japan, and central Virginia. She co-directed the Greater Richmond Children’s Choir and founded the Western Hanover Art & Music (WHAM) Camp.  In 2011, Christine was named Teacher of the Year, and in 2012 she achieved National Board Certification in Early/Middle Childhood Music.  She is a former lead teacher for the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community’s LIVE ART program. Christine has performed as a vocal soloist with ensembles such as the Richmond Symphony, the Chicago Sinfonietta, and the Bermuda Festival Orchestra. She frequently guest conducts honors choirs, presents at music education workshops and conferences, and is an active member and past president of the James River Virginia chapter of AOSA (American Orff Schulwerk Association). Christine has received several grants to study Orff Schulwerk around the world, most recently in New Orleans (focusing on Orff and jazz) and Ghana (focusing on Orff and Ewe culture).
