The Crucible
By Arthur Miller
Directed by Emily Mattison
October 9th – 12th, 2025

VCUarts Theatre presents a new take on a timeless classic – The Crucible by Arthur Miller. VCU’s production will approach the text through a female lens, highlighting the strength of the girls and women in a patriarchal society. Knowing their fate is in the hands of men they learn what they need to do to survive. They find their power.

Inspired by the 17th-century witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts, this iconic story challenges the ideas of power, fear, and justice. The play follows a group of young girls raised to be seen and not heard as they discover their voices and accuse members of their community of witchcraft. As paranoia consumes the village, it reveals the power each individual wields and the moral choices they must make.

Performances are Thursday October 9th through Sunday October 12th, 2025 at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts (922 Park Ave Richmond, VA 23284).

The run time is two hours and 45 minutes, including a 15 minute intermission.
