VCU Music’s Ensemble-in-Residence, the Neave Trio, will perform “Remembrances” on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025 at 7:00PM in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall in the Singleton Center for Performing Arts. Consisting of works by Ludwig, Smetana, and Shostakovich, the program title refers to the emotions of the composers at the time of composition. Smetana composed his Trio No. 1 in G minor Op. 15 in the aftermath of the death of his daughter at the tender age of four due to scarlet fever, while Shostakovich penned Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67 amidst the horrors of World War II. Notably, both pieces conclude in the major key, symbolizing the enduring presence of hope.
