Investigation Now is a 4-week program encompassing a wide range of contemporary art concepts as well as a variety of artmaking techniques for 8th-10th grade students. Throughout these sessions, students are encouraged to consider how and why artists make work and to relate those ideas to their artistic processes.

Investigation Now’s goal is to encourage students’ artistic growth and offer important knowledge that may assist in future portfolio-driven courses. Students can expect to create work with traditional media and develop creative skills and new ways of interacting with media. Classes are taught by VCU Art Education students who will provide invaluable mentorship to students as they create work in this collaborative environment.

The theme for the Fall 2024 session is “Who Do You Reflect?: Self Perception and Exploration” In this semester’s session, students will build a portfolio mindset by gaining drawing, painting, and conceptual development skills. They will explore what motifs resonate with them and how drawing and self-examination can influence our understanding of our features and self-perception.

For the Fall 2024 session, Investigation Now will take place weekly on Fridays from 5-8 pm at the Murry DePillars Building located at 1000 W Broad Street on the VCU Campus.

The 2024 registration fee is $90*. We do offer need-based scholarships which can be applied for using this form.

Registration for the fall session (November 1st – 22nd) is now open.

Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis until the session is full. The session size is 20 students. *Food and materials will be provided
