Clinton Helms’ work has appeared in both solo and group exhibitions throughout Virginia and the United States. He retired from the United States Army in 2001 after serving over twenty-one years to begin a career as a professional artist.
Clinton has a B.F.A in Communication Arts/Illustration from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a M.F.A. in Illustration and Fine Arts from Marywood University in Scranton, PA.
He is currently a member of the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles, CA, The Art Center in Orange, VA., and the United States Air Force Arts Program at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
For the past ten years; Clinton has logged many studio hours focusing on building a body of work in both acrylics and oil paintings of landscape, portraits, still-life’s, other subjects of interest, and a large number of paintings from assignments documenting training exercises for the United States Air Force.
He has taught drawing and painting classes at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia for the past six years as an Adjunct Drawing Instructor. He currently teaches Introduction to Drawing as an Adjunct Professor with the Art Foundation Program at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Arts in Richmond, Virginia.
Clinton currently lives in Goochland, Virginia with his wife Ella B. Helms who is an Educator and Photography Artist as well.
