An alumna of the Chicago Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, Michelle Harman Gulick made her European debut performing “Symphony No.14” by Shostakovich with the Orchestra Regionale Toscana in Florence, Italy. She made her Carnegie hall debut with the Chicago Symphony, under the baton of Sir Georg Solti, as Woglinde in “Das Rheingold.” Gulick first appeared with the Chicago Lyric Opera as Giannetta in “L’Elisir d’Amore” with Luciano Pavarotti. Since that time she has appeared in numerous roles with the Chicago Lyric Opera, as well as, the Seattle Opera, Columbus Opera, Ravinnia and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. Gulick was a national semi-finalist in the prestigious Metropolitan Opera Competition and was the top-prize winner in the International Verdi Competition in Bussetto, Italy. She has also established herself as a stage director. She served for more than 18 years as the stage director for VCUOpera, where she directed more than 15 different operas and numerous opera scenes. Gulick was twice chosen as a Goldovsky Scholar for the Crittendon Opera summer program and has served as the theater arts director for the Bay View Music Festival in Bay View, Mich., for two years where she directed “South Pacific” and “The Music Man.”

Gulick is the vocal and stage director for the voice area of the residential Governors’ School for Humanities and Visual and Performing Arts.

Gulick directed the premiere of “Faded Glory” under the auspices of the City of Petersburg, Virginia State University and the Petersburg Symphony. She continues to perform, most recently in a duet recital of Purcell, Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Bellini and Pearson-Thomas, as well as Mozart’s “Coronation Mass,” Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” and Haydn’s “Lord Nelson’s Mass. She is a soloist for River Road Church.
