Sheree Chen is a writer/filmmaker based out of Richmond, Virginia. She holds an MFA from Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts, where she specialized in directing. Her work focuses on the poetics of being, both together and apart, with a particular interest in memory and individual subjectivity.

Her experience blankets the gamut from indie to studio, local to international, theory to practice, and development to production. When she’s not working on her own projects, she favors supporting those with a finger on the heartbeat of social change; whether it’s elevating the voices and stories of the underrepresented or building teaching resources for inclusivity in education.

She served as editor on Valerie Scoon’s Emmy Award-winning documentary “Invisible History: Middle Florida’s Hidden Roots” and as associate producer on “Sound of the Police,” a forthcoming ABC/HULU documentary by Academy Award nominee Stanley Nelson.

Serious stuff aside, she’s a dad music enthusiast, pro-generator truck parallel parker, and a proud alumna of the VCUarts Cinema program.
