Carolyn Phinizy is assistant professor and chair of Art History. After teaching undergraduate courses for several years, she joined the department in an administrative capacity in 2015. Phinizy is a passionate teacher, mentor, and leader in the arts. She serves as the Chair of the Department of Art History at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she completed her PhD in Art History in 2010. As a higher education administrator she focuses on curriculum development, program assessment, and student and faculty success. Phinizy is committed to the promotion and development of the arts and serves on the Executive Board of SECAC, a national non-profit organization dedicated to advancing teaching and scholarship in the arts.
