POC in the Arts: Forum 4/17/17 6pm, Depot

Published on April 17, 2017

As always, I’m pleased to be sharing messaging from our student groups! BASE is hosting an event tonight at the Depot, their message is below.  Hope to see you there.

It is my pleasure to invite you to BASE’s POC in the Arts Forum Monday, April 17 6pm – 9pm on the second floor of the VCUarts Depot Building.

This forum is designed for students to discuss and voice concerns surrounding their experience here at VCU within the School of the Arts in a positive and productive environment.

Hear from our keynote speaker Holly Alford, the Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, School of the Arts, forum moderator Dr. Chioke I’Anson from the Department of African American Studies, as well as representatives from University Counseling Services.

Students will be encouraged to express their concerns openly, however there will not be specific departments/professors mentioned to protect the interest of both parties.

BASE and its’ members feel that it is very important to address student concerns in order to create a positive impact on VCUarts surrounding not only students of color, but underrepresented minorities and those who identify as LGBTQIA+.

In addition, there will be a self-care project that both students and faculty are highly encouraged to participate in.

All the best,

BASE at VCU
