Tony Cokes’s media projects question constructed identities (personal and cultural), through reframing and repositioning. Cokes has received grants and fellowships from the Rockefeller Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council for the Arts, Creative Capital, and the Getty Research Institute. Cokes’ works have been exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Guggenheim Museum, New York; Centre Georges Pompidou, and La Cinémathèque Française, Paris; MACBA, Barcelona, Spain; ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany; and in Documenta X, Kassel, Germany. Cokes is Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Modern Culture and Media, Brown University.
