Amrhein received her Ph.D. in art history from VCU and is now an associate professor of art history in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock . She has conducted research and published in her area of specialization, which is ancient Maya art (Pre-Columbian) and has delivered papers before international professional organizations. Amrhein received two Fulbright-Hays awards to study and research in China and Brazil and participated in two National Endowment for the Humanities summer seminars in Central America and Peru. She also conducted research in Delhi, India on environmental artists and their global impact. She is currently working on a manuscript for the University Press of Colorado, Boulder.
