Julie May holds both a M.A. and Ph.D. in art history from VCUarts. While her doctoral work focused on art of the Four Corner’s region of the U.S., her research, curatorial work and teaching includes numerous global traditions. For ten years she was on the faculty at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, where she also served as the Curator of the College’s Art Collection. In 2014, May returned to Charlottesville to join the faculty at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at the University of Virginia. She has published a number of articles, book reviews, and has curated many exhibitions on African, Asian and indigenous Australian art.
