Tuesday & Thursday, 2:00-3:15 PM
The Depot, Room 2003
Instructor: Erin Hanas, PhD, Associate Curator of Academic Programs, ICA
This course introduces students to theories and techniques of leading interactive tours at the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA), VCU’s new, non-collecting institution dedicated to presenting the art of our time and to providing an open forum for dialogue and collaboration across the region and throughout the world. Students will learn about museums and contemporary art, gain experience interpreting works of art from multiple points of view and facilitating conversations with diverse audiences, and develop public speaking and engagement skills. Students who complete the course will be considered for acceptance into the ICA Student Guide Program. Previous study of art is not required, but students should be interested in contemporary art and museums.
