Opens Sunday, June 9th, 6-7pm
VCU Fine Arts Building
1000 W. Broad St.
The eleven artists of VCU Summer Studio Program are pleased to present “Social Sock-hop Project” which shows work made since their arrival in Richmond. This exhibition materializes a rapid-fire week of introductions and reveals budding conversations among practices and personal histories.
The exhibition features work by David Bordett, Molly Burt-Westvig, Xingyang Cai, Clara Leonor Cruz, Shawn Ewbank, Tiffany Fang, Quinton Isaacs, Eunha Kim, Will Krauland, LaRissa Rogers, and Cleo van der Veen. Artworks include painting, printmaking, video, installation, and performance. Interwoven throughout the show are investigations of identity, race, mythology, wayfinding, and materiality. Although each artist’s approach is unique, the group as a whole is driven to share the urgency of artistic expression.
