Simon Lapointe

Simon Lapointe hails from Canada and enjoys a varied career playing solo, chamber music and orchestra. In addition to serving as Principal Second Violin of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra since 2005 and Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra since 2010, he has also served as Assistant Concertmaster of the Richmond Symphony, Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Quebec Symphony and Acting Concertmaster of the West Virginia Symphony. 

Simon has performed the concertos of Mendelssohn, Sibelius, Mozart, Conus and Vivaldi with several orchestras in the United States and Canada. Since 2005, he is first violin of Ambrosia Quartet, which recorded an album of music by Adolfus Hailstork, released in 2017 on Albany. He can also be heard on Centaur, Erm Media and Navona Records labels. 

In addition to performing, he is Adjunct Professor of Violin at Virginia Commonwealth University. He coaches chamber music at the Chautauqua Orchestra Camp and Hampton Roads Chamber Players. Additionally, he leads master classes and orchestra excerpts workshops. 

His teachers include Helmut Lipsky, Johanne Pothier and Martin Beaver. He is a graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Trois- Rivières and the Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University.
