It is said that one generation stands on the shoulders of the previous generation.
The VCU clarinet studio is not only a community of 15-20 students who support for each others’ success has set an example nationwide, but its two major instructors provide broad shoulders that propel a new generation of musicians into successful careers. Both instructors have highly visible international careers with numerous recordings, major performances and widely read publications covering three decades, and are actively involved in the International Clarinet Association, previously serving as president and in other leadership positions.
Performance opportunities for VCU clarinet students reach far beyond the two bands, orchestra, jazz orchestras and many chamber ensembles on campus to professional opportunities in the extraordinarily active Richmond and Eastern Virginia musical communities.
Weekly master classes are a showcase of the community that thrives in the clarinet studio. Our students place highly in major competitions and top graduate schools. Their successes have established VCU as the pre-eminent clarinet school in Virginia.
